Join AnimeChicago at the Japanese Culture Center to celebrate the groundbreaking and cinematic storytelling of Mamoru Oshii. Known for his deeply philosophical and sweeping epics like Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, and Urusei Yatsura, Oshii’s work is focuses on visual-storytelling and breathtaking action sequences. His works are credited with influencing Western directors such as James Cameron and The Wachowskis.
This event will feature different presentations of Oshii’s work including talks by Neil Clingerman, Jaclyn Salmon, and Dr. Brian Ruh, two Oshii enthusiasts and a published author working in the English language. We’ll view a few scenes from his major works and dive into what makes this eccentric director someone worth watching.
Then join us for our Anime Happy Hour at The Logan Theatre with Van Paugam, setting the scene with music from the Ghost in the Shell OSTs! Finally, wrap up our day-long celebration with a screening of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.
