Cells At Work: Killer T

Moving forward…

AnimeChicago is monitoring the COVID-19 situation daily and complying with the state-wide social distancing policy. But that doesn’t mean we can’t support each other in this difficult time. So please join us as we bring our programming online through Spring. Possibly longer.

Immediate Changes

1. We’ve launched a Discord server!
All AnimeChicago members can create an account and join our Server today. Discord is an invaluable coordination tool during busy convention weekends. But it also makes a fantastic chatroom, encourages remote parties, and promotes member interaction.

2. We’re hosting meetups via Discord
Meetup.com relaxed its rules around in-person events and have encouraged organizers to use conferencing tools. Discord to the rescue!

  • Our Anime Circle, Manga Circle, and Member Mixers will continue online at their regularly scheduled times.
  • Member Mixers will include a more structured format so members can chat and play games in smaller groups.
  • Stay tuned for new online programs like watch parties, webinars, and partnerships with other local organizations.

3. We’re ramping up publishing
Our team was approved for three panels at Anime Central this year. Sadly, convention organizers rightly canceled the event last week for safety concerns. We hope for another chance to present this material in 2021.

Our mission to educate Chicagoans on Japanese pop culture, media literacy, and personal development doesn’t stop at conventions. We believe these informative panels benefit all anime fans, so we’re transforming them into articles and will be publishing them in the coming weeks.

We also invite AnimeChicagoans with an influx of free time to submit articles and topics they would like to see on our website.

And to You, Our Members

I hope you and yours are doing well, despite current circumstances. Many of us are exhausted and anxious after two weeks of social distancing and nonstop doomsurfing. If you can muster some energy, pop onto Discord and take a little breather.

I’m proud of how AnimeChicagoans have connected in the past two weeks, but not at all surprised. You’re all great folks, and we’ve built a remarkable community together. Let’s continue to support each other in this time of crisis. Offer recommendations, share your experiences, and assist each other through the rough patches.

We may be at least six feet apart, but you are not truly alone.
