Mitsuwa Plaza

Mitsuwa Plaza

Just about every seasoned anime fan in the Chicagoland area has been to this supermarket mini-mall at some point. Beyond the large selection of Pocky, Ramune, Calpis, Gummies and other Japanese snacks, there’s a food court with six vendors selling a variety of sushi, ramen and udon. If you’re interested in ingredients for a special Asian dish, Mitsuwa carries it. There’s plenty of salespeople to help you chose the right sake. The bookstore, video rental and travel agency can also assist those interested in Japanese language and travel, assuming you have some prior knowledge of these subjects. And the bakery’s buns in the shape of Totoro and Dustballs? Kawaii!

Please note: This is a traditional enviroment geared towards Japanese families in the local community. While there is acknowledgement of the anime fandom here, they frown upon otakudom including cosplay, yaoi, yuri, furry and loud behavior. Please conduct yourself with respect towards the culture.
